The Meaning of Sincerity (al-Ikhlaas) – Shaykh Saaleh al-Fawzaan

The noble Shaykh Saaleh al Fawzaan, may Allah preserve him, was asked:

“What is the meaning of al-Ikhlaas (sincerity)? And if the servant desires other than Allah in his worship, then what is the ruling?”

The Shaykh responded:

“The meaning of al-Ikhlaas (sincerity) is safety from ash-Shirk (polytheism); that the actions and intentions of a person are sincerely for the Face of Allah عز وجل, not for other than Him, and not to be seen or heard.  One’s intention is for nothing other than Allah عز وجل, not seeking worldly gains or the praise of people, therefore the actions are sincere, seeking the Face of Allah, عز وجل. This is because Allah does not  accept the actions unless they are done sincerely, seeking His Face سبحانه وتعالى.”
