An Example of Patience and Gratitude from Shaykh Abdul Aziz bin Baz

Thanking Allah for Everything

An Example of Patience and Gratitude from Shaykh Abdul Aziz bin Baz, may Allah have mercy upon him

¶”I’m Abdul Aziz the son of Abdullah, the son of Abdur Rahman, the son of Muhammad, the son of Abdullah from the family of al-Baz. I was born in the city of Riyadh during Dhul Hijjah, 1330 Hijri (apx. 1920 CE). I possessed eyesight during the onset of my studies, thereafter I was stricken with an ailment in my eyes in the year 1346 H (apx. 1936 CE), and all praise is due to Allah. I ask Allah (عز و جل) to compensate me with clarity and insight in the Dunya, and to reward me with good in the Hereafter, as He (سبحانه) has promised upon the tongue of His Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم)***, and I ask Him (سبحانه) to grant me a praiseworthy outcome in this life and the next.”

***The Shaykh, may Allah have mercy on him, is alluding to the hadeeth collected by Imaam al-Bukhari in his Saheeh, narrated by Anas bin Malik (رضى الله عنه), where he reports that he heard the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) saying:

“Allah said, ‘If I deprive my slave of his two beloved things (i.e., his eyes) and he remains patient, I will let him enter Paradise in compensation for them.'”

Saheeh al-Bukhari, Book 75, Hadeeth 14
