Shaykh as-Sa’dee: ‘…seek the means of approach to Him, and strive hard in His cause’

“O you who believe! Do your duty to Allah and fear Him. Seek the means of approach to Him, and strive hard in His Cause as much as you can. So that you may be successful.”

[Surat Al-Mā’idah, Ayah 35]

Shaykh Abdur-Rahman bin Naasir as-Sa’dee (رحمه الله) mentioned in his tafseer:

“This is a command from Allah to His believing servants to whatever Eeman (faith) requires of having Taqwa (piety) of Allah, and to caution from His indignation and His anger. And that is to say that the servant should strive and sacrifice to the utmost of what is possible of his ability in avoiding what displeases Allah with regards to disobedience by way of heart, tongue, and limbs – apparent and hidden –and he should ask for help in abstaining from it (i.e. acts of disobedience) so that he will be, because of that, saved from Allah’s displeasure and punishment.”
