Shaykh Saaleh Fawzaan al-Fawzaan – A Benefit Regarding Prayer in the Masaajid
A Benefit Regarding the Prayer: Shaykh Saaleh bin Fawzaan al-Fawzaan, May Allah Preserve Him
“…And among the establishment of the Prayer is the praying of it in the masjid with the congregation, for verily the congregation is obligatory upon the individuals – meaning, upon the people. So every Muslim who is able to be present in the masjid and pray with the congregation, then that is obligatory upon him. He (The Prophet ) صلى الله عليه و سلم said:
“Whoever hears the call and does not come, then his prayer is not valid, except for those who have an excuse.” [Saheeh- Ibn Majah (793), Ibn Hibaan (2064) and Al-Haakim in ‘Al- Mustadrak (893)].
And had it been that everyone prays in their location or in their house, why was the Adhaan legislated? Why was it legislated that the mu’adhin says: ‘Come to the Prayer, Come to the Success’? Meaning that, it is emphasized to come to pray along with the congregation in the Houses of Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, except for whoever has an excuse, or there is no congregation with them, or he does not have a masjid, then he should pray in his locale/place. As for whoever is around the masjid and they hear the Adhaan while he is healthy and safe, then he has no prayer (i.e. no reward) if he prays in his house.”
